Day 14 [20-Oct]: Rome

I started the day with breakfast, having biscuits and mini chocolate cakes left over from the day before. After breakfast, I made my way to Baths of Diocletian. To my little surprise, the entrance fee is now €10 instead of €8.50. However, the ticket now includes 4 museums and valid for 3 days.

In the first of the 4 museums, the Baths of Diocletian is together with Museo Nazionale Romano. Inside the museum, there are exhibits and stories about the early Latin days, before Rome came about. The museum also contains several statues and a courtyard. The bath house is beside the museum and pretty small, so about 5 mins was all it took for me to walk around and take photos.

After that, I proceeded to Palazzo Massimo which is just 3 mins walk away. The palace is filled with many statues, artwork and also coin collections from the way back in time.

After the visit, I decided to head to the third museum included in the ticket, which is Palazzo Altemps. I stopped for lunch along the way and had pasta with mushrooms.

After lunch, I passed by the famous Spanish Steps, but I learnt a few days ago that it had zero historical significance even though it is so popular with tourists. Quite a number of artists doing human sketches have their "booths" setup at the top end of the Spanish Steps.

Along the way, I also passed by the pantheon yet again and took a couple more photos there. At Palazzo Altemps, it houses many statues as well and some artworks on the walls/ceilings.

After the short visit, I decided to make my way to Piazza Navona and try to find some pretty paintings to bring back as souvenirs. At Piazza Navona, I also entered a beautiful church called Chiesa Di S. Agnese In Agone.

After resting for awhile and enjoying my gelato, I headed to Crypta Balbi, which is the last museum included in the ticket. Perfonally, I found this museum to be rather small and relatively more boring. Nothing really interested me, but I did not have to fork out extra money for it, so I just spent little time in there.

After the crypts visit, I walked towards colosseo metro station and passed by capitoline hills. Up at the top, the structures, floor and statues were all designed/sculptured by Michaelangelo. I had passed by there during the bike trip a few days ago and didn't bother to climb up there again. Besides, it's closed to the museum's closing hours and the museum is just an art gallery from what I read online.

As I walked further, I decided to get a gift which is a watercolor painting of a name, using monuments or fanciful flowers/etc to depict each alphabet of the name. For example, a drawing of Eiffel tower represents the alphabet "A". After the artist finished, I took the painting with me and rested near the colloseum while waiting for the painting to dry.

After the painting dries up, I went to the metro station and took the metro back to Basilica San Paolo station. When I reached the station, I went to Heng Li Chinese restaurant again for dinner. I ordered siew mai as appetizer, then with dumpling soup, then chicken with pineapples and beancurd with some meat. Together with rice and a can of coke, it costed me €15 .10 and I was really very very full. I would call that quite a satisfying meal for my last night in Rome. After dinner, I returned to the hostel, which is nearby, and rest for the day.
